Quite often when there is a problem with the neutral switch the pigtail gets unplugged and the harness connector gets a "jumper" made from whatever is available. Look for the matching connector under the paneling beneath the key switch. Also look for a switch near the PTO lever.

Either the clutch pack and brake lack oil pressure, or there is a warped disc/ jammed clutch which does not stop or fully transmit power. It would seem unlikely that the pump would be bad at 2500 hours.I think Ford model 5000 is offered with only hyd operated pto clutch. Therefore I suggest to check hyd pressure on RH side of trans case. IIRC pressure should be in the 165-175 psi range. Possible pto problem could be failed pto control valve,oil supply tube or pto clutch seals leaking. BigT and Ultradog.
