Tbi to carb swap.

A TBI Tb is around 450 CFM. the biggest issues with a carb eng is people put WAYYYYYYY too big of a carb on there eng. they think bigger is better. I hate my 78 Camaro due to it is carb. HOPEFULLY one day it will be EFI. EFI is the way to go.I have 350 TBI, it's registered as an 86 but I was told it was an 89, the TBI been giving all kinds of trouble and the PO had said he picked with it and stuff. So I have an 83 with a 350 also with a carb. So my intention was to swap the intake and carb onto the TBI and make it all mechanical.2) Yes, the 350 turbo and convertor are a straight bolt in. 3) Stock starter should work with the new engine. The flexplates/flywheels are NOT the same though. 4) Yes on old style distributor, points or HEI. 5) I'm not too familiar on the serpentine bracketry.Cut the fuel lines just after the fuel filter and loose the connecting pipes that used to go to the TBI. They get in the way of the distributor. Run the lines to the inner fender and then a line over the engine to the carb. I think I have some pics of what mine looks like on this forum somewhere. Just do a search.Then change the fuel pump out for something meant to give the 2-3 psi you will need at the carb. The original fuel pump should be pumping close to 22psi, way too much. It willl just flood the carb till gas comes out of your air filter in about 6 seconds. OK so sounds great, but there are issues with this plan.

If everyone was happy why change to TBI. Doesnt matter who uses all the power or not. KTM believes TBI is better than TPI. Many on this site, other riders and KTM's own comments say TBI feels more like a carb. This doesnt exactly make me want to go out and get one. you cant run a TBI without a computer as far as i know. To carb - from TBI. Pretty easy to do. All of the electronics were added to an engine platform designed to run without them .
