At 36w+4, I was 2cm and 30% effaced. At 38w+3, I was 3cm/70% and my OB did a membrane sweep. At 39w+3, I was 4cm/80% and my OB did another sweep, and was sure I'd go into labour. Strolled into my checkup at 40w+3 and was still 4cm/80%. The happy ending here is that when she went to sweep my membranes, she realized she'd break them.
