Impala knocking noise.

GLMR15. MEMBER. 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA. 4 CYL. 2WD. AUTOMATIC. 78,000 MILES. My Impala makes a very loud knocking noise anytime my foots not on the pedal. It quits being as loud or stops all together when I am pressing either the gas or the brake.I have a 12 Impala the VVT V6 and I have a knocking/popping sound from the motor when you start to drive it. The sound is interrupted when the vehicle shifts gears. I do not hear the sound when it idles or when I rev the engine without the car moving (in park or neutral). I also do not hear the sound when it is in reverse (going backwards).When you hear power steering pump noise, check the power steering fluid. Low fluid or a bad bearing in the pump could cause noise. That indicates which of the 3 or 4 actuators need replacing. With that knowledge, you should be in good shape for getting it repaired without getting ripped off.

Christina answered 7 years ago. @sackingsgirl06 The actuator will make noise when the electrical system of the car is on (even if no air is flowing). This happens when you unlock the car with the key fob or open the car door. If it is on the right side, then you can access it right behind the glove box and replace it.Three of them are the same - one on each side, over the hump, and one behind the glove box on the right. The first two control the driver and passenger side blend doors, respectively. The one behind the glove box controls the recirc mechanism. These are the ones usually making the noise.

It sounds suspension related, but I have replaced my rear strut assemblies, sway bar links, and sway bar bushings in order to try and fix the noise, but nothing worked.
